SOUNDBITE DELIGHT

I've become a NASCAR fan this year and appreciate the teamwork involved, which is very similar to pro cycling. I continue to marvel at the sports marketing machine that is NASCAR and its tracks and teams and its rabid fan base. Every pro athlete should drink a sponsor beverage at the end of a victory and proudly state the title sponsor in the first sentence!  It is good business etiquette, and high-level PR.  I've told my PR clients to impart quality sponsor soundbites.  It reminds me  of my favorite movie quotes, well one of my favs, from the movie "Bull Durham", when Nuke LaLoosh does his first interview in The Show by saying "Y'know, I'm just happy to be here [insert title sponsor name with team name] and hope I can help the ballclub [insert title sponsor].  I just want to give it my best shot [hold up sponsor product] and good Lord willing, things'll work out...  gotta play 'em one day at a time, Y'know...".

INCLUDE PUBLIC IN PUBLIC RELATIONS

Whether we accept it willingly or not, PR is about two-way communications in this world of social media. Our definition of stakeholders has grown beyond just Media. During a recent webinar, someone referred to the new world of media representatives to whom we talk as "professional content providers". This was addressed also by Ragan Communications (appreciate your PR Daily news feed) in their A recent posting is about "5 Things PR can do to make a greater impact". One of the five includes  that we stress the public side of public relations. Agreed. Because the Public side not only includes the Pro Content Providers on Twitter, FB and blogs, but our event sponsors, partners, volunteers and fans.
