ALPHARETTA, Ga. (November 12, 2008) – Peloton Sports, Inc., a public relations firm that specializes in communications projects for sports and special event clients, received two awards this past week for public relations excellence from the Georgia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. This marks the third PR honor for the Tour de Georgia cycling event and the second honor for the ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon. Since 2003, Peloton Sports has been recognized with 10 PRSAlGA awards.
A Phoenix Award was presented to Peloton Sports for best media relations campaign in 2008, in the consumer products category, for the Tour de Georgia presented by AT&T. Peloton Sports was engaged to plan and implement press events in 11 different cities across Georgia in just four weeks. This statewide media tour, spanning communities from Savannah on the coast to Blairsville in the mountains and ending in metro Atlanta, included representation from event sponsors, charitable beneficiaries, local dignitaries and professional athletes. Peloton Sports was able to secure media stories in all targeted markets across the state, generating 23.2 million media impressions as well as $233,000 in media value. Among this coverage, 73 percert of stories referenced speakers from the media tour and 40 percent referenced the new beneficiary organization for the Tour.
For the ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon public relations program, Peloton Sports was recognized with a Certificate of Excellence, in the category of Events and Observances (seven or fewer days) related to business products. Jackie Tyson, president of Peloton Sports, partnered with Jenny Schmitt, president of CloudSpark, to increase media coverage of this second-year running event and maintain race registrations at 13,000 or higher. A creative five-month public relations program generated a 44 percent increase in media coverage from the inaugural 2007 event, with 159 million media impressions. The ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon sold 96 percent of available race registrations (14,370 spots) and solidified its position as one of the top combo running events in North America.
